Most late model vehicles use passivated stainless steel glass which impedes the transfer of RF energy. This is most noticeable when operating a low-power handheld radio from inside an automobile. When traveling on the outer edge of a repeater coverage area it is best to locate your handheld radio's antenna outside your vehicle. The OPEK AM-601-SMA is prefect antenna to achieve this. It uses a very strong rare earth magnetic to safely secure the antenna outside your automobile.

Has Held Up Well
An unusual usage. This is not going to help any radio people because I purchased this antenna to mount the object I use to identify my car in a parking lot. So many new cars have a fin antenna these days so my little figure had nowhere to go. I will say that the antenna has held up well so far and the only complaint I have is that it is not quite tall enough to show over all the other large SUVs in the parking lot; another six inches would have done it, I think, but not the fault of American Radio Supply. Perhaps this is a new line that ARS can look into to grow their customer base.

Perfect Fit
The antenna is a perfect fit for a temporary antenna on my vehicle. I use it primarily for 2 meters even though it's a dual band antenna. The feed line could be a bit longer... | SELLER'S NOTE: Thanks for the feedback. The max. length of the coaxial cable ( ~ 8 ft.) is designed to reduce loss.

Great Product
The antenna works well for being compact in size. I use it with a UHF DMR MD-380 HT in my wife's NO RADIO, NO ANTENNA car.

Great Antenna for a handheld
This antenna works great for a handheld in a car. The magnet holds firmly and the small coax slips easily into the car without any fuss.

Great antenna for the price!
This antenna helps my handheld (HT) get better range in the car. I can work repeaters 15-20 miles away that the 18" whip antenna couldn't reach in the car.

Works Great, Good for the money
I bought this as an external antenna for my MD80 DMR handheld when I am in the car. Other than wishing the cable were a foot or so longer, it works really well.

Awesome antenna
This little guy provides excellent performance in a small package. Signal quality is awesome on my Icom IC-92, and the price is hard to beat. My only wish is that it had a few more feet of cable. Eight feet isn't quite enough for my current installation in the truck.
