Product Description
UHF-Male (PL-259) to SMA-Female Coaxial Adapter Connector
The RFA-8183 - UHF-Male (PL-259) to SMA-Female Coaxial Adapter provides a convenient way to connect equipment using a standard UHF/PL-259 connection to RF equipment equipped with an SMA interface. This straight, inline adapter eliminates the need to replace connectors or fabricate a custom coaxial cable.
The RFA-8183 is a practical solution when integrating traditional UHF-connected coaxial systems with newer RF equipment using SMA connections. Its compact construction and threaded interfaces provide a simple, reusable connection without cutting, splicing, or replacing an existing cable assembly.
Designed for radio communications, test equipment, antennas, and RF applications, the RFA-8183 combines the rugged construction of a UHF connector with the compact threaded design of an SMA interface.
Key Features
- UHF Male (PL-259) to SMA Female configuration
- Straight, inline coaxial adapter design
- 50-ohm impedance for standard RF communication systems
- Nickel-plated metal body for durability and corrosion resistance
- Gold-plated brass or copper center contact for reliable electrical conductivity
- Delrin dielectric insulator
- Knurled body provides a secure grip for installation and removal
- Compact design for convenient RF system integration
- Suitable for amateur radio, communications, antenna, SDR, and test equipment applications
Connector Configuration
UHF Male (PL-259):
The PL-259 end features the familiar large threaded UHF connector commonly used with amateur radio, CB, mobile radio, and other communications equipment. The UHF male connector incorporates a center pin for connection to a standard SO-239/UHF female jack.
SMA Female:
The opposite end provides an SMA female interface designed to mate with an SMA male connector. The compact threaded SMA connection is commonly found on modern radios, RF modules, SDR equipment, antennas, and test instruments.
Common Applications
This adapter can be used for a variety of RF interconnection applications, including:
- Connecting PL-259-terminated coaxial cables to SMA-equipped equipment
- Amateur and ham radio installations
- CB and mobile radio systems
- Antenna and RF equipment interconnections
- SDR receivers and transceivers
- NanoVNA and other RF test equipment
- RF laboratory and engineering test benches
- Adapting existing coaxial cable assemblies to modern RF equipment
- Temporary or permanent RF system configurations

*Actual usable frequency performance depends on the equipment, cable, connector construction, installation, and RF system. While SMA interfaces can support substantially higher frequencies, the PL-259/UHF interface generally limits the practical operating range of the complete adapter assembly.
Installation
Simply thread the PL-259 male end onto a compatible SO-239/UHF female connection and mate the SMA female end with an SMA male connector. Hand-tighten the connector securely; avoid excessive torque that could damage the connector or mating equipment.
