Product Description
EXT-3824-44 — 44" Stainless Steel Antenna Mast Extension
The EXT-3824-44 is an 44-inch stainless steel antenna mast extension. Positioning the loading coil higher on the antenna, rather than near the feedpoint or base, can improve radiation efficiency by increasing radiation resistance, reducing the relative impact of coil and ground-system losses, and improving current distribution along the radiating element.
Designed to raise the height of bottom-loaded antennas, it is ideal for installations where the loading coil needs to be positioned higher for improved clearance or mounting flexibility. Adding height can help improve antenna clearance and positioning on trucks, cars, RVs, campers, and other vehicles.
The EXT-3824-44 can be used to upgrade your mobile antenna installation with the EXT-3824-44 - 44-inch stainless steel mast extension for added height, clearance, and a durable installation.

Typical Application - When adapting a 20-meter vertical antenna for 40-meter operation using center-loaded or in-line loading coils, the coils are installed in line with the radiating element. In a vertical configuration, the typical starting point is approximately 3.5 to 5 feet from the feedpoint, depending on the antenna's dimensions and design. With 44-inches being common. Some end-users will purchase two 22-inch lengths and combine them in series to achieve the desired 44-inch length. Two 22-inch lengths offers greater portability in field operations.
Benefits of Raising the Loading Coil
Positioning the loading coil higher on the antenna, rather than near the feedpoint or base, can improve radiation efficiency by increasing radiation resistance, reducing the relative impact of coil and ground-system losses, and improving current distribution along the radiating element.
Design Considerations
- Inductance: Moving the coil higher may require greater inductance to maintain resonance at the desired frequency.
- Bandwidth: Loading coil placement and coil Q affect usable bandwidth. Electrically shortened antennas generally have narrower bandwidth than full-size antennas.
- Performance: Center-loaded and top-loaded designs can offer efficiency advantages over base-loaded designs, depending on the antenna's physical dimensions, coil losses, and installation.
Note: Actual coil placement should be determined through antenna design calculations and adjusted through impedance or SWR measurements.
